Don’t let it be taken away
Adonijah sent Bathsheba to King Solomon, asking him to give him Abishag the Shunammite in marriage. We all know that Bathsheba was Solomon’s mother. She came to Solomon for Adonijah and asked for Abishag. Then King Solomon swore by the LORD: “May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if Adonijah does not pay with his life for this request!
Adonijah had spoken these words subtilly. The God of heaven had revealed this. Then King Solomon said, as surely as the LORD lives—he who has established me securely on the throne of my father David and has founded a dynasty for me as he promised—Adonijah shall be put to death today!”So King Solomon gave orders to Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he struck down Adonijah and he died.(1 Kings 2:24-25)
Why did King Solomon kill Adonijah? What wrong did he do that led to his murder? Was it a sin to ask Abishag the Shunammite to be his wife? In this message, we can meditate in detail on what the secret is. Read it prayerfully. The Holy Spirit will help you.
When King David was old and frail, his servants said, “Let’s find a young woman to serve him and to lie on his lap and warm him.” So they found Abishag the Shunammite and brought her to David. She was very beautiful. She helped the king and served him. She was almost like a wife to King David. (1 Kings 1:1-4)
The same anointing rests on the wife as on the husband, for they are one flesh. (Genesis 2:24) King David was anointed to rule over Israel. The same anointing rests on all his wives and concubines. The same anointing rests on Abishag the Shunammite.
In the Holy Bible, after the death of Saul, the first king of Israel, Abner took his concubine Rizpah. Saul had the anointing for kings. The same anointing was on his concubine. Now because Abner had taken his concubine, that anointing went into him. This is why Abner became powerful in Saul’s family. He even ruled over Saul’s son Ishbosheth while he was king of Israel. (2 Samuel 3:6,7)
Adonijah, the son of David and Haggith, exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” So he got chariots and horses ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him. Joab, the commander of the army, and Abiathar the priest advised him (1 Kings 1:7). But the kingdom passed from him to his brother Solomon. His desire was not fulfilled. (1 Kings 2:15)
The prophets know deep secrets. The prophets who advised him gave him a cunning plan. What was it? “Ask Abishag, your father’s wife and servant. She will have the anointing of kings of your father David. If you take her as your wife, that anointing will come and stay on you. This will make you strong. You can stand against to your brother Solomon and win and become king”, they advised.
Adonijah, who followed this advice, did not go directly to Solomon, but went to his mother Bathsheba and asked Solomon to give him Abishag in marriage. Bathsheba, who did not know this secret, also went to Solomon and asked. But God, who had strengthened Solomon, revealed these plots to him. As a result, Adonijah was killed.
The deep secret that the Holy Spirit teaches us from this message is that the husband and wife are one flesh. Whatever anointing is on the husband, the same anointing will be on the wife. Whatever anointing is on the wife, the same will be on the husband. Therefore, the truth is that those who want to seize a husband or wife are not only trying to seize some flesh but also the anointing that is within them.
Therefore, God’s children must protect themselves from anyone taking away their partner. This is equivalent to protecting the anointing.
